Nigeria security attacks have continued to raise serious concerns after a police report revealed that 98 criminal incidents were recorded across the country within a single week. The incidents included kidnappings, killings, armed robberies, terrorism-related activities and bandit attacks in several states.
The latest report comes despite increased spending by the Federal Government on security projects and operations in the first four months of 2026.
Nigeria Security Attacks Persist Despite Increased Spending
First of all, data from the Open Treasury Portal showed that the Federal Government spent N57.78 billion on security-related projects and operations between January and April 2026.
The amount represents a 127.97 per cent increase compared to the N25.35 billion spent during the same period in 2025.
Furthermore, the spending covered defence equipment procurement, military infrastructure, police facilities and other security projects.
Analysis of the data revealed that N21.39 billion was spent on defence equipment procurement. Another N14.16 billion went into security equipment, while N5.84 billion was used for military barracks construction.
However, only 1.24 per cent of the total N4.66 trillion security allocation had been utilised as of April 2026.
Police Report Highlights Rising Nigeria Security Attacks
Meanwhile, a police security report revealed that 98 criminal incidents occurred across Nigeria within the last seven days.
According to the report, the incidents included 37 homicide cases, 27 bandit attacks, 24 kidnapping cases, eight armed robbery incidents and two terrorism-related attacks.
The crimes were reported across Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi and several other states.
One of the most alarming incidents involved the abduction of 39 residents in Zamfara State after they reportedly entered the Fadama Forest to negotiate with a notorious bandit leader.
Similarly, bandits reportedly blocked the Katsina-Kankara highway and intercepted a commercial vehicle carrying passengers. Security operatives later rescued nine victims, while two others remained missing.

Experts React to Nigeria Security Attacks Across States
However, security experts have expressed concern over the continued rise in Nigeria security attacks despite increased government spending.
Security analyst Lekan Jackson-Ojo described the situation as one of the most severe security crises in the country’s history.
According to him, insecurity continues to affect economic growth and national stability. He also questioned the effectiveness of current security measures.
Another analyst, Chidi Omeje, argued that the military remains overstretched due to numerous operations being conducted simultaneously across the country.
Moreover, he stated that military action alone cannot solve Nigeria’s security problems without addressing poverty, corruption, unemployment and poor governance.
Calls for Stronger Security Measures
In addition, experts blamed porous borders and instability across the Sahel region for worsening Nigeria security attacks.
They urged the government to strengthen border management, improve intelligence gathering and implement long-term strategies to address the root causes of insecurity.
Nevertheless, many Nigerians continue to call for urgent action as communities face increasing threats from bandits, kidnappers and other criminal groups.
