Popular Afrobeats singer Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, has expressed deep frustration over the state of security in Nigeria. His reaction follows the tragic death of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of bandits.
Abubakar was a former spokesperson for the Nigerian Army. He and his wife, Hajiya Amina Abubakar, were kidnapped on May 30, 2026, while traveling to a wedding in Katsina State. Sadly, reports confirm that the General died of a heart attack while being held in the bush.
“Who Are You?” — Paul Okoye Asks Nigerians
Reacting to the news on his Instagram story, Paul Okoye questioned the safety of the average Nigerian. He pointed out that if a trained, high-ranking military officer could not survive the ordeal, then ordinary citizens are in great danger.
“A Major General with all his training, gallantry, and strength still died of a heart attack in that situation,” Paul wrote. He then asked a chilling question in Pidgin: “If a retired major general fit kpai like that, who’s you?” (If a Major General can die like that, who are you?)
A Growing Sense of Fear
For many Nigerians, this news is a wake-up call. Usually, people believe that “Big Men” and top military officials are safe because of their connections and security. However, this incident proves that the insecurity in the country has reached a level where nobody is untouchable.
Whether it is on the highways of the North or even at high-profile gatherings in the South, the fear of crime is everywhere. This reminds many of the recent distressing report of BamBam’s missing phone during the Alexx Ekubo memorial, proving that whether it is a small theft or a major kidnapping, Nigerians no longer feel secure.
The Call for Action
The death of General Abubakar has sparked fresh outrage across social media. Many Nigerians are calling on the government to do more than just release press statements.
Fans of the singer joined him in expressing concern, noting that if the bandits are bold enough to kill a General, the morale of the junior officers and the safety of the masses are at serious risk.
As the country mourns the retired General, the big question remains: If those trained to protect us are no longer safe, what is the fate of the common man?
