The Humble Beginning
Many Nigerians believe you need millions of Naira to start a successful business. However, one hardworking couple in Abuja is proving everyone wrong. Felicia relocated from her village in Benue State with no job and no plan. To help her start something, her husband gave her just N12,000.
With that small amount, Felicia bought one “mudu” of beans and a little corn for pap. She started frying bean cakes, popularly known as akara, by the roadside. What started as a tiny street stall has now turned into a life-changing enterprise.
Big Wins from Small Seeds
Today, the business is no longer small. The couple recently shared their amazing achievements on social media. Through the money made from selling akara, they have successfully built their own house in the village.
That is not all. They also bought a car to help with their daily business needs. Her husband proudly mentioned that they no longer spend money on Keke Napep to move their goods. This shows that with consistency, even the smallest business can grow into something massive.
Ignoring the Mockery
Success did not come without some social challenges. Felicia’s husband is very involved in the business and helps his wife at the stall. Because of this, some people used to mock him. They laughed at him for being an “akara seller.”
Instead of feeling ashamed, the husband ignored the critics. He focused on his family’s future instead of the opinions of neighbors. Today, those who laughed are likely surprised by the couple’s new car and house.
A Bright Future Ahead
The business is now booming. Felicia explained that her customers are very loyal. In fact, the business is so busy that people often form long queues. Some customers even send dispatch riders to pick up their orders because the akara is so popular.
The couple is not stopping here. They plan to move away from the roadside soon. They are saving money to get a permanent space and a canopy to protect their business from the weather. Their story is a powerful reminder to all Nigerians: start where you are, use what you have, and never be ashamed of your “hustle.”
