Nigerian bandits have taken their criminal boldness to a shocking new level. They are now using TikTok to flaunt stolen money and even give it away to followers. The Nigerian Senate has reacted with outrage and ordered an immediate crackdown.
Bandits Give Away N100 Million on TikTok
First of all, the story that shocked lawmakers came directly from Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. She represents Kogi Central in the Senate. During a session on Thursday, she told her colleagues something alarming.
“Two days ago, bandits conducted a giveaway, distributing over N100 million within 30 minutes through their social media handles, especially TikTok,” she said.
Think about that for a moment. Criminals who kidnap Nigerians for ransom are now openly distributing that money on TikTok — live, on camera, without fear. Furthermore, they show their faces. They display weapons. They celebrate their crimes online. Yet no one has arrested them.
Senate Explodes in Anger
Consequently, the Senate erupted in anger. The debate started from a motion by Senator Sunday Karimi of Kogi West. He raised the alarm over growing bandit attacks in his constituency. Specifically, he revealed that terrorists attacked a secondary school in Iluke-Bunna during SSCE exams on June 10, 2026. They killed the Vice Principal, a teacher, and a local resident. Moreover, just two days earlier, another attack had happened in Odo-Ere, Yagba West.
As a result, lawmakers agreed that the situation had gone too far. Therefore, the Senate passed a resolution directing security agencies to act immediately.
What the Senate Has Ordered
The Senate directed the Nigerian Police Force National Cybercrime Centre to take the following steps:
- Track and monitor all social media accounts used by bandits
- Arrest anyone openly displaying criminal activities online
- Prosecute offenders and report back to the Senate
- End all peace deals between state governments and bandits immediately
In addition, Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged security agencies to treat this as a national security emergency. He stressed that the situation requires urgent and sustained intelligence coordination.
Why This Is Dangerous for Nigeria
Meanwhile, security experts warn that TikTok banditry is more dangerous than it looks. When criminals flaunt wealth online, it does two things. First, it recruits more young people into banditry. Second, it mocks the Nigerian government and shows they operate freely without fear of arrest.
Nevertheless, the Senate’s response gives Nigerians some hope. However, the real test will be whether security agencies follow through with actual arrests.
Nigerians React
The story has gone viral on social media. Many Nigerians are angry. Some are asking how bandits can do live giveaways on TikTok while the government says it is fighting insecurity. Others are calling on TikTok itself to ban these accounts immediately.
In conclusion, the bandits-on-TikTok saga exposes a deep and troubling gap in Nigeria’s security response. Therefore, the coming days will show whether the Senate’s strong words will lead to real action on the ground.
