Oyo Police Deny Sunday Igboho’s Involvement in Release of Kidnap Victims

The Oyo State Police Command has denied reports linking Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to the alleged release of kidnapped victims in Igboho community, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The clarification came after viral videos and social media posts claimed that Sunday Igboho played a role in securing the freedom of an abducted family.

Police Deny Sunday Igboho Involvement

According to the Oyo State Police Command, there is no official confirmation that the kidnapped victims have been released.

Furthermore, the police stated that there is no evidence linking Sunday Igboho to any rescue operation involving the victims.

The command stressed that reports circulating online remain unverified and should not be treated as official information.

A police statement noted that the Nigeria Police Force has not confirmed the release of the hostages.

How the Controversy Started

The incident attracted public attention after reports emerged that a woman, her children, and a relative were abducted during a midnight attack by armed men in the community.

Shortly afterward, Sunday Igboho reportedly issued a two-hour ultimatum demanding the release of the victims.

Consequently, several online platforms claimed that the victims regained their freedom shortly after the ultimatum expired.

The reports triggered celebrations among some residents and supporters of the activist.

Police Urge Public to Await Official Updates

Despite the widespread reports, police spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade reiterated that authorities have not verified the claims.

Moreover, the command stated that the Commissioner of Police did not confirm any involvement by Sunday Igboho in the matter.

The police urged residents and media organizations to rely on official updates rather than unverified social media reports.

Community Remains Concerned

The abduction had earlier caused tension in the area after armed men reportedly invaded the community and kidnapped members of a family.

Reports indicated that the kidnappers initially demanded ₦300 million as ransom before allegedly reducing the amount during negotiations.

Meanwhile, conflicting reports regarding the fate of the victims have continued to generate concern among residents.

In addition, claims that a pregnant woman and a ransom courier may have been killed during the incident have further heightened anxiety within the community.

Investigation Continues

The Oyo State Police Command assured residents that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Consequently, authorities promised to provide accurate information once facts surrounding the case are fully established.

In conclusion, the police maintain that there is currently no verified evidence supporting claims of Sunday Igboho involvement in the alleged release of the kidnapped victims.
